ALDI’s Vitacat cat snack range

My ankles are covered in scratches.

That’s what happens when you have a small excitable kitten monitoring your every move around the house, determined to try and take your feet from under you as you climb the stairs.

It’s not just ankles either. Hands aren’t safe – try typing with a three month old kitten watching your fingers warily – and for some reason, the back of the underarm is a particularly favourite place-of-attack too…

I love having a cat around again, but I’m not so keen on the continual tooth and claw attacks, so if I’ve got something that I really need to do it’s quite nice to be able to distract her. And that’s something that ALDI’s Vitacat soft chew snacks have proved to do perfectly.

Pixel and ALDI treat stick

As the name suggests, they’re soft and chewy (well, from what I’ve witnessed anyway, I’ve not tried eating one myself) yet also surprisingly robust. A single chew stick can last her a fairly reasonable amount of time, since she enjoys batting it around the floor and trying to get it to jump in the air before finally pouncing and claiming her prize…and since they only cost 8.5p each (85p for a packet of 10) it’s a reasonably cheap and efficient way of keeping her entertained. Just a word of warning though – it’s worth keeping them stored out of kitten reach, since she’s actually managed to bite through the packaging and help herself one evening where I foolishly left them in her sights. It’s nice to know that she likes them that much but the resulting packaging carnage and bits of chew stick strewn about did take a little bit of cleaning up!

Which leads me to the second, less messy and less distraction based option – the Vitacat Filled Pockets. They come in two flavours – Salmon, or Chicken and Cheese – and at 69p a packet they’re a bargain really! Once again Pixel can’t get enough of them, and they’re small enough that the kids can help feed her one or two each which they love doing! (you can even lay a trail of them for her to follow, just like Hansel and Gretel and their breadcrumbs…).

I’ve never really had a cat that enjoyed treats before, but Pixel certainly does love these, and with the added bonus of safety for my ankles we we’ve already been shopping at ALDI to get some more!

Paws off, they’re mine!

Disclosure: Pixel was sent an assortment of Vitacat snacks to sample but she was not required to like them (although I am very pleased that she does!).
