Chick Party – the Hen Party for little people

A couple of weeks ago it was my sisters hen weekend, something which crept up rather quickly and took up a whole weekend in Bournemouth (via Brighton, thanks to relying on the satnav against my better judgement, whoops!).

I’d never planned a hen weekend before, and my visions of perhaps a quick bit of bingo, maybe some mackerel fishing, (my sister DID say she wants something a bit ‘alternative’…but it turns out that’s not exactly what she meant…) or a drunk night out at a comedy club all turned out to be a bit off the mark – for my sister, anyway.

What we ended up doing was Pizza Express, clay pigeon shooting, ceramics cafe for dinner set painting, a cocktail master class and then a night out on the town dressed as GI’s. And all this whilst staying at a very fawltytowersesque hotel.

Unfortunately, it turns out the kids were rather unhappy about this. They love the beach, they love holidays, and they love their Auntie Tooie. So to pacify them, we decided the weekend after to have a bit of a ‘chick party’ that they could come along to.

Much excitement ensued as we baked a chick cake (with a rainbow inside and white icing on the outside – ‘Auntie Tooie, I’m whispering quietly because you think the cake is just white inside but there’s a rainbow and it’s a secret!’ The Wee Man declared gleefully).

Then we got party poppers, party blowouts, a bag of crushed ice and some juices and fizzy water and we were all set for non alcoholic cocktails and noise making.

Just one more thing…a quick trip to Primark for some cheap t shirts and a printing of some ‘chick party’ t-shirts on some t-shirt transfer paper I had lying around (handy hint – use hair straighteners to get iron on transfers to stick quickly, an iron is USELESS) and we were ready to go!

The kids and Auntie Tooie all had a whale of a time, the cake was eaten, the cocktails made, the blowouts blown and the poppers popped, and the lack of a beach was thankfully forgotten in all the excitement.

So now we are all fully prepared – wedding here we come!
