Peppa pig pool party – with Waterbabies and the Tommy’s Splashathon
Peppa Pig, swimming, and cake.
Three of the Wee Man and Bubby D’s favourite things – and happily for them, all combined in one fun day out courtesy of Waterbabies and Tommy’s to tell us all about their new partership to help raise money for Tommy’s through their Splashathon; an annual swimming event where little ones can help raise money by being sponsored to carry out a splashing challenge.
In fact we are no strangers to Splashathon as the Wee Man happily took part in it last year as part of of his regular swimming lessons, having great fun completing challenges in the pool in order to convince friends and relatives to part with a little bit of cash for a great cause.
Of course, that wasn’t his main concern – he was just happy to have the opportunity to spend a bit more time in the pool – and he definitely doesn’t need an incentive to do a lot of splashing! But from my point of view, as a supporter of Tommy’s and the work they do to help save babies lives, supporting women at risk of losing their baby to have a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby, I was quite happy to put a bit of effort in to help him raise some sponsorship.
This year, it’s got even more exciting – because Tommy’s have teamed up with Waterbabies and Peppa Pig.
As big Peppa Pig fans, the Wee Man and Bubby D were both extremely pleased to have the opportunity to meet Peppa (although Bubby D was initially extremely suspicious of the fact that Peppa was extremely large in comparison to her). They were also very excited to enjoy a session of swimming with Waterbabies, whose teaching methods are very different to those of the local leisure where the Wee Man currently learns to swim as they focus on encouraging underwater swimming and confidence initially rather than learning to swim on the surface.
Even Bubby D – who hasn’t been swimming for the last five months due to a perforated ear drum and was therefore a bit dubious, despite having been swimming since the age of three months and really enjoying it then – had a huge smile on her face at the end of the session thanks to a fun time ‘surfing’ (lying on her front on a swimming float whilst the instructors made waves), singing along to some favourite songs, and jumping off a huge round float.
It might sound like just splashing around in the pool, but actually all the different activities used in a session are designed to teach water confidence and safety, and instil the basics of swimming from an early age – something that I personally feel is one of the most useful things for my little ones to learn.
All to soon the splashing was over, and it was time to get changed and refuel (splashing is surprisingly tiring!) A quick game of hide and seek in the swimming pool lockers later, and it was cake time…and no convincing was required to get both kids tucking in to a Peppa Pig cake, biscuits and orange juice.
We were very pleased to have been invited along to have such a lovely day, enjoying the pool with Waterbabies, learning more about Tommy’s and of course meeting Peppa Pig. But even if we hadn’t had that opportunity we’d still be Splashathoning again this year, Bubby D included, and shouting about a great fundraising activity for a great cause.
