Bananas and bapples

Every other week, things get a little bit frantic in the mornings.

That’s because its the week that I work Mondays, Tuesdays AND Wednesdays, as opposed to my two day working week – and because the Other Half has condensed five days of hours into four so that he can have a ‘Daddy Day’ with the Wee Man and Bubby D whilst I trudge off to work on hump day, it means we all have to get up pretty much with the birds…

…well, the lazy birds, anyway.

Six thirty sees the flurry of activity starting, with the Other Half exiting the house just after seven and leaving me with the Wee Man and Bubby D to contend with. Usually at this point, the tantrums, tears and ‘I don’t want THAT’s begin…and somehow, kicking and screaming, I eventually manage to get the Wee Man to his childminder without forgetting too many essential things for the day.

And then Bubby D begin our morning commute – which has started following a bit of a standard pattern.

Walking up the road, Bubby D will begin bouncing animatedly, shouting and pointing, then finally shrieking ‘BAPPLE!’.

The greengrocers is pretty much the only shop open at that time; and as we go past it, without fail, Bubby D will start to chant ‘bapple and banana, Mummy…bapple and banana’.

And every morning, she chooses an apple, and she chooses a banana, and then we continue on our way. The greengrocers know us well now – and Bubby D always gets a smile and a wave when they see (hear!) her coming.

Its the highlight of her morning, and I have to admit, its usually the highlight of mine too!
