Strolling, strolling, strolling
Its friday, which means the Wonder One’s Club for me and Bubby D. And today, it also – because Bubby D has reached that all important 6 weeks mark – means the end of 6 weeks of enforced slothdom for me.
Due to SPD (symphis pubis dysfunction – where your hips go all wonky and sore) during my pregnancy, I was forbidden to do anything ‘too strenuous’ in the first 6 weeks postnatally (not sure how doing ‘nothing too strenuous’ is achieved when you have a lively toddler with a habit of running away from you to look after…), but since we have now reached that milestone, I decided to give Buggy Fitness a go.
Buggy Fitness, as the name suggests, basically involves exercising whilst pushing your buggy. The class is led by an instructor who makes sure you keep the pace, and covers an appropriately challenging route. Some classes involve a fast walk to the park, and then doing various stationary exercises, whilst others are simply continual walking.
For this week, the class turned out to be continual walking. Bubby D was in the double pushchair, which at around 12kg is twice as heavy as our trusty Maclaren Techno XLR. This, combined with the extremely high number of steep hills around the area, made for a pretty good workout. Needless to say, by the end I felt like my legs were made of jelly and the term ‘out of breath’ was a bit of an understatement. Judging by how wobbly my bottom felt while I was power walking, though, it was definitely a good idea. Roll on next week, and another dose of exercise… (perhaps with a lighter pushchair, though!)
