Game of Thrones series 3, dragon skulls, and a Dorset beach
If you go down to the beach today, you’re in for a big surprise!
Well, you are if you’re in Dorset, anyway. And if you happen to be a massive Game of Thrones fan like the Other Half and I, then on a surprise scale it’s pretty much hitting the top ranks of excitement!
Charmouth beach may not be quite the same as the dungeons of Kings Landing, but this week it’s home to something that you might reasonable expect to see were you roaming around the Free Cities of Westeros: a giant dragon skull!
I’m actually quite gutted that we don’t quite live near enough to pop down and have a look, as it sounds spectacular. The skull, which is 40ft long, 8ft wide and over 9ft tall, has been placed on the beach; with backbone disappearing down into the sand, adding an extra bit of awesomeness to the already pretty nice windswept Jurassic coastline.
Of course, it’s not a REAL dragon skull. As the Wee Man will tell you ‘dragons are just pretend, and they won’t really puff fire and burn you all up’.
But even so, it definitely looks like it could be and it’s a great reminder, as intended, that Game of Thrones series 3 is now available to watch on blinkbox – before it’s available on DVD or Blu-Ray. Taking over two months to construct by a team of three, it was intended as a celebration of the arrival of the series, with Ben Ayers of blinkbox stating: ‘Game of Thrones is easily the most talked about TV show of the moment. We wanted to mark it’s arrival on blinkbox with a spectacle every bit as dramatic as this amazing series’.
Looks like they’ve achieved their goal!
So, even if we can’t make it down to the beach see the dragon skull in all it’s glory, we can still get our dragony fix through a few hours of blinkbox watching.
Bring on the dracarys!
Disclosure: I was not paid to write this post. I just really like dragons!
