Pregnancy diary – week 17

I was a bit crap, and I kind of forgot to tell the community midwives the estimated due date I was given following my ’12 weeks scan’ which actually turned out to be a ’13 weeks and 4 days scan’…whoops!

That means that even though I’m now 17 weeks, this week I had my ’16 week appointment’.

It’s the first time I’ve seen the midwives since my booking appointment, and I also had an antenatal physio session first thing (‘ooh, you are bendy aren’t you…!’ – like I haven’t ever heard that before…)  so all in all, a whole morning of sitting around getting poked and prodded.

Turns out, Pippin is not too keen on the whole poking and prodding thing either.

‘Shall we try and find the heartbeat?’ the midwife asked, having taken ages scribbling down lots of random notes about my wee and the itch I had last thursday in terrible handwriting that no-one except hopefully other health professionals can understand.

‘Umm…yes please’ I said – since even though my stomach is now protruding further than my boobs I do still sometimes doubt that there is actually a baby in there.

So out came the wierd heartbeat thingy, out came the extremely cold gel, and away she went…

…and kept going…

…and kept going…

…and going…

and by this point, I was well aware that Pippin was DEFINITELY in there. Because I could feel the little rascal wriggling away every time she tried to pin down the right location for a good long blast of that horsey galloping noise that demonstrates that all is well.

‘er…it does sometimes take a little while…’ she commented, looking a bit harassed, 15 minutes later.

‘BEHAVE!’ I silently ordered Pippin

Pippin wiggled a bit, and then, finally decided to play ball.

And there it was.

BAHDUM, BAHDUM, BAHDUM…

Even though I knew what to expect, I still felt a little bit emotional listening to it.

Worth the waiting, and the prodding and poking, after all 🙂
