Play nice

In the last couple of weeks I’ve noticed a change.

And it’s a good one!

Bubby D has now got to the stage where she is talking well enough, and understands enough that she can play co-operatively with the Wee Man.

I noticed this a few days ago, when, sitting upstairs I heard the Wee Man decide they were going to play doctors. He was ‘assessing’ his patient, and Bubby D was playing along, being given ‘injections’ and ‘bandages’ (toilet roll).

There was no screaming. There was no shout for Mummy. There was no ignoring and moving on to other, apparently more interesting tasks.

Then we went to the local Story Telling Centre, and they were off – chasing each other, making up a puppet show between them, and crawling around ‘lion caves’ without the need for me to crawl in after and rescue one or the other of them or help them up steep steps.

I won’t lie – its not all fun and games. There are still outraged screeches when the choice of activity differs between the two of them. There are still occasions where things get a little bit silly and it ends up with a bit of pushing and fighting and accusing faces turned towards me for validation of who is in the right.

But in between it all there are these lovely moments where I remember what it’s like to be young with a sibling to play alongside. It’s great to see them having fun together. And it’s great not to have to crawl around lion caves on my hands and knees, too!
