Review: Cantaloop pregnancy and nursing tank top
When buying my maternity wardrobe, I tried to find clothes that would last beyond pregnancy and through breastfeeding as well. If I’m spending on clothes that will only be worn for a few months, I’d rather make sure that they can be worn for as long as possible!
Not all nursing tops are created equal though, and it’s difficult to know which will be flattering once the bump is gone – some tops that were flattering throughout pregnancy make me look as if I’m still five months pregnant even several months after giving birth.
The Cantaloop Pregnancy and Nursing Tank Top is made of a lovely flowing material that looks like it should be clingy, but actually isn’t. I got a black one (they are available in a range of different colours) and I started wearing it during the last few weeks of pregnancy. Even though I had a very large bump at that point the coverage was great – not a bit of stretch-mark decorated stomach in sight! The built in bra was a bonus too, especially whilst I was waiting in hospital to be induced on a hot ward. Not having to wear too many layers of clothing is a definite plus. I found that the bra section provides enough support without being restrictive and the shape of the top is very flattering too, even in those last few giant weeks.
Once Little B arrived and we were feeding, I got to experience the Cantaloop nursing top from a breastfeeding point of view. I really like how the clasps don’t look like nursing clips – made of a row of three little balls they simply look decorative, although it has taken me a few days use to get the hang of how they clip open and shut again.
However, once the clasps are released you do end up with quite a lot of the top of your breast on show. I have to say I do prefer the style of tops which unclip to reveal a lower layer with openings, and a strip of material that covers the top of the breast, rather than just completely folding down. It’s not a huge issue for me as I’ve been breastfeeding a long time and if I’m honest I don’t really think too much about how I look feeding in public; but I do think that this style might have put me off a bit in the early days first time round.
Overall though, the comfort and style really make it a good option as a nursing top choice and being so lightweight and breathable I think it’ll be invaluble in the hotter summer months too!
