All I want for Christmas is…

I saw the Britmums blog prompt, and it touched a nerve with me.

Just recently, my family have been bugging me to send out ‘Christmas Lists’. (Actually, since October, so it’s not even that ‘recent’ in the grand scheme of Christmas things).

These are lists which circulate among family members both here in the U.K., and in New Zealand, telling them what I, the Other Half, the Wee Man and Bubby D would like for Christmas.

On the one hand, I think its a good idea, despite it being a right pain to remember to sit down and write the things – and then when I do sit down to write them finally, remembering what to put on them!

Then, another part of me thinks, is it good to send out a list? Isn’t it a bit demanding or greedy? Shouldn’t I just be happy with whatever people choose to get me, if indeed they do choose to get me something?

But then I think, if they ARE going to get me something, then it may as well be something I want…need…oh, ok, just want…

Which brings me to my next point – all I want this year (other than some sleep and a bit of help with the kids) is a Kindle. In fact, not even a whole Kindle, as I think that’s quite a lot for one person to spend, but money towards one. The way I see it, if everyone could bung me a tenner in a nice envelope (or a boring one, I’m not fussy), I might be able to afford one.

Unfortunately, the family do not see it this way. They think that this is ‘not exciting enough’. They wish to see me tear shiny paper off randomly shaped packages, eyes bright with anticipation, wondering which item off my list (or an item not actually on my list – one year I received a three-foot cuddly sheep…) might be revealed inside. They have demanded that more items be added to ‘the list’.

This then means that I have to think of things that I don’t actually want, to add to the list. Which then makes the list a bit pointless!

To be honest, its all a bit mad.

So, in the end, basically there are three things that I want for Christmas. Relaxing time with the family. An end to the madness. And (money towards) a Kindle.

I don’t think that’s too much to ask…
