There’s no business like snow business
Snow is a bit like marmite in my experience – you either love it or hate it.
Much like my feelings on marmite, snow for me falls firmly into the ‘hate’ category. In terms of going out in it, anyway. It’s lovely to look at from the warmth and comfort of my own home, but given that I hate being cold, I hate falling over, and I fall over quite easily on solid, unslippery ground, then snow has a variety of properties that aren’t compatible with my requirements for a happy life.
This years snow, however, had two vital ingredients that made it not so bad.
1/ It wasn’t freezing. I know that sounds weird, but although it must have been freezing at the point it actually arrived, being out in it once it had settled wasn’t actually that cold. Which meant that the snow wasn’t icy and slippery. So apart from being an extremely tiring walking surface, it actually wasn’t that bad.
2/ I had the monstrosity otherwise known as a Phil and Teds Vibe to cling on to. Pushchairs are great for keeping me upright I find. And not as easily kicked out from under you as crutches. I may continue to take one out with me long after the kids are grown.
So, dressed up like michelin men, armed with a sledge, we ventured out into the snowy wilderness.
And it was beautiful. Beautiful landscape, families playing happily together, children and adults laughing together and even grumpy bus drivers not put out by having snowballs lobbed in unison at their vehicles as they passed the snow covered sledging hill.
But most beautiful of all to me…Bubby D’s first experience of snow. As you can see, she loved it – my little snow angel 🙂
