The Baby Show – why you should go!

Scarlet fever for the Wee Man and a hospital admission for Bubby D have meant that the last couple of weeks have been a little bit horrible, to say the least.

So it was nice to be invited to the Baby Show today as a V.I.P. blogger, and experience some lovely pampering as well as getting the chance to look at some of the latest mummy and baby gadgets that have come on the market.

After a short two tube, one DLR journey, Bubby D and I (and our fellow mummy blogger friend Ruth, akarocknrollerbaby) arrived just after the doors had opened and had a bit of a wander.

First stop – the Fisher Price baby creche. Prior to arriving at the Baby Show I’d been fairly adamant that I wasn’t going to leave Bubby D in there as she is only 6 months old, but after she seemed pretty keen on staring at what was happening in there, and following reassurance from the lovely creche workers, I decided to give her a chance to have a play for 45 minutes. She loved it! When I picked her up she was happily investigating a rainforest jumperoo (time to dig ours out of the loft, I think…).

While Bubby D was enjoying her toy-time, I went and had a chat to BeSafe about their brilliant car seat, and entered the Fisher Price competition to win £500 worth of toys (although I think the Wee Man and Bubby D probably have more than enough toys already!). Ruth and I also popped over to see the Superdrug stand, who were offering eyebrow threading and manicures.

Next, having retrieved Bubby D from the creche and after using the wonderful baby change facilities (with free wipes and nappies provided), she obliged by taking a nap while I had a lovely massage from the Cloud, which really loosened up my shoulders and left me feeling a lot more relaxed – a perfect antidote to the last two weeks of tiredness and stress.

A quick spot of lunch, resting our weary legs on some of the numerous seats scattered around the venue, we were off again to have a look at what was going on up on the stage, before visiting Mamas and Papas and having at a demonstration of the Mylo pushchair. (they are giving one away every two hours – so we entered that competition too!)

Britax were next, and we saw a demonstration of their new Trifix seat which looks great – possibly a contender for the Wee Man’s next seat as Bubby D is fast growing out of hers and will be after the BeSafe iZi…

Me & I showed us their lovely baby clothes and I will definitely be going back there tomorrow to pick up an outfit each for the Wee Man and Bubby D. Their clothes are wonderfully colourful with interesting designs that I know the Wee Man will love – and they’ve obviously been made with a lot of thought about how kids clothes should be – the sleeves turn back and the trousers can be pulled in so they don’t drag on the floor, both really clever designs that will mean they can have a lot more wear.

By this point Bubby D was happily sitting in her Babasling, having got bored of the pushchair and wanting to get a better vantage point of the goings on. We checked out the lovely feeding chairs in the Tommee Tippee feeding area – extremely comfortable as usual – and then it was off to look at some other stalls.

We will be heading to the Baby Show again tomorrow so I didn’t rush around lots of stalls like I usually would to make sure I see everything I want to, but we did have time to speak to the lovely people at Buggy Accessories and tell them how much we love their stuff – the Bundlebean is still our number one ‘baby gadget’ at the moment.

There are still plenty of things for us to look at and competitions to enter so I can’t wait to head back and experience it all again – tomorrow we will be checking out the Red Cross First Aid talk and watching the Midwives from One Born Every Minute, as well as visiting a lot more stalls (and of course I’ll be using the lovely comfortable feeding chairs and the free changing facilities again!).

All in all today was a great day – my legs are aching but we met some lovely people, saw some great products, and most importantly Bubby D had an enjoyable time looking at all the goings on. If you’re thinking about heading to ExCel and checking out the Baby Show for yourself then you really should – it’s well worth a visit 🙂
