My walk to work #BEDM day 5

Walking to work doesn’t happen as often as it used to. That’s because the whole family life routine has changed a bit, and so now sometimes I drive because it’s faster than taking public transport.

I like the public transport though. At least, I generally do, if I can get a seat. Standing up on a tube train in the early hours isn’t always so much fun…but whatever happens, I get the opportunity to relax, to read, to watch the world speed by for a bit before I sit down at my desk and get on with the day.

And when I’m walking from the station to the office, there is always something new to notice.

Sometimes, I see the sand dog man. He makes dogs out of sand. At least I say dogs, it’s actually really ‘dog’ I suppose because he only seems to know how to sculpt a labrador. Every time I see him I wonder ‘is this the day he’ll surprise me with a pug? Or an Alsatian? Or perhaps a Chihuahua? But so far…no. Always the labrador.

Then there are the paintings. New paintings are springing up on walls everywhere. They are bright and colourful, and although they stay the same I am always noticing new things about them.

Most recently, there are the flowers. This time of year is wonderful for a bit of colour on the walk to work – there are daffodils, there are tulips, and there are other flowers I don’t know the name of because myself, I am not really a friend to flowers (I cannot grow them, but I like to look at the results from those who can).

Driving to work really doesn’t have the same feel to it. There are no sand dogs. There are no paintings. There might be flowers, but mostly there are just other cars and endless tarmac until I reach the office.

Walking to work makes for an interesting start to the day.
