The DIY ‘sweets and treats, my little pony, princess’ party
Granted, this post is a month after the actual event, but organising a ‘Sweets and Treats, My Little Pony, Princess Party’ is in fact quite a tiring thing.
Not least because it’s a pretty eclectic set of demands!
The requested title of her party encapsulates D’s favourite three things as she enters the world of being 4, and so – having thought about it a bit and figuring out it wasn’t quite such a daunting proposition as it sounds – I decided to give in and just go with it.
And this is what she ended up with:
First off, a beautiful princess twirly dress from Princess and the Frock. D gets to choose a new ‘special’ dress every year for her birthday and with it’s princesses pattern, frilly sleeves, full swirly skirt and pockets for little treasures it was exactly what D was after. She absolutely loves it!
The main event: sweet tree making. As in, small polystyrene balls on the top of sticks, which are stuck in little metal buckets (all of which came in a little diy sweet tree kit that we bought from CandyTreeKits). Add a sweet bar, some bowls of thick glace icing and some glue spreaders, some bits of ribbon and some tissue paper and you’re all set! Sweet trees here we come…
It actually went way better than I’d expected. We ended up making the ‘trees’ fairly last minute, which meant that I’d had no time to test my idea of using icing to stick the sweets on rather than cocktail sticks (not a good idea in a room full of little people!) and I wasn’t quite sure it would work. But it did! And the kids all loved having a little tree covered in confectionery to take home with them.
Next came the princess bit. That involved firstly, a cardboard castle from Kid Eco, which they could decorate and climb in and out of as much as they liked:
and secondly, a far larger castle of the bouncy variety:
Just like it was at her big brothers’ party three weeks earlier, the BeBop Bouncy Castle was bounced on and slid down and full of happy, shrieking little princes and princesses. Simple, easy entertainment!
Then it was time for the My Little Pony side of things. For most of the previous week, I’d been making My Little Pony and Disney Princess inspired tutu skirts and ponytail hairbands, and D and her friends got to grab the tutu of their choice and run around in them, playing ‘musical pony statues’ and of course, a round of pass the parcel…
….followed swiftly by afternoon tea, picking back up on the sweets and treats theme, with lots of little cakes, biscuits and nibbles as well as some sandwiches and vegetable sticky things.
Topped off finally by the cake – a very rainbowy creation, with Rainbow Dash herself (or at least the painstakingly created icing version) sitting proudly on top. I’d seen a number four sparkler and we thought we’d use that instead of a number four candle to make things a bit more interesting, but I realised too late that we probably should have told D that it’d be a bit more sparkly than the usual tiny little flame topped variety of candle. She was more than a bit surprised by it!

We finished off the party with ‘pinata balloons’ – which are basically just white and pink balloons that we stuck little gifts and metallic confetti inside before blowing them up. Then when the kids inevitably popped them they were showered with sparkles and princess costume jewellery.
At the end of the day we had one very happy little Pony Princess, who wasted no time in bringing autumn along early for her sweet tree 😉
