Christmas spirit levels? A sneak peak at B&Q’s Autumn Winter 2014 range
Whilst I do really like the understated Nordic Christmas colourschemes (we went to Norway last year and all the lights were white, with stars and candelabras in all the windows) there is no denying that really, Christmas just isn’t Christmas without a lot of colour.
Looks like B&Q are in agreement: their new seasonal range is absolutely jam packed full of it.
Flashing Vegas inspired stars, 2d and 3d reindeer, and colourful strings of battery powered outdoor LED lights sit alongside slim and elegant trees.
Because B&Q have thought about it, and they’ve come up with a solution to our ‘tall tree but small room’ dilemma of last year – they’ve made a tree with the height, but without the girth. Great for the compact front rooms of city apartments and houses.
Pre-lit trees (with colourful and plain white options available) feature prominently too, combined with differently textured branches and the option of being frosted or glittery as well! And some of the pre-lit trees are the easiest ever to set up – take the two parts out of the box, stick them together and on go the lights! Amazingly simple and quick to do (always useful when you are surrounded by very impatient, very small people running around in excitement).
Plus there are some great decorations to adorn the various trees with, starting from just £1. I really love the turquoisey-teal ones, which feel fairly child proof and feature unicorns (it may in fact be a donkey but I like to think it’s a unicorn), reindeer and tiny knitted gloves. But there are well made, unique decorations in a whole host of colours which can be mixed and matched to create whatever takes your fancy.
Lights, trees and decorations aside, B&Q have lots of other lovely items on offer for the Autumn/Winter collection too. Their new ‘Milly’ lamp (out in September time) really appeals to me – it’s made of silicone and can be squashed into a variety of heights and shapes dependent on what mood you’re in at the time. It’s also pretty safe from destruction – you can (if you wish to) fling it on the floor and it still survives intact, plus being LED lit it doesn’t get hot either. Perfect for kids bedrooms!
There are cushions, signs, wall hangings and even a glittery toilet seat available (don’t forget the ‘alternative’ Christmas – fuses, foil trays, screwdrivers and extension leads are all things you probably didn’t know you needed, but you really do).
There’s no doubt about it – I’m already feeling festive, and it’s still only July. But good news for me – Santa says I can have some sleep for Christmas this year.
Merry Christmas (in July) everyone!
