Top ten child friendly Christmas decorations

original_christmas-sprout-tree-decorationIs it a bauble? Or is it a sprout? The kids might not enjoy eating them but they’d definitely enjoy looking at this fine little specimen of sproutiness – and being made of non-breakableness he can keep on rolling out, year after year. Just like sprouts of the edible kind.

BQ CIJ bear and boots

These little red boots from B&Q are also top of our favourites list this year – I kind of wish they actually WERE boots, they’d look great on Little B. (In fact, Bubby D did try and put them on her thinking they were hers). There are a whole range of child friendly, knitted decorations that can mix and match alongside them too.

lego santa baubleLEGO baubles are great because they provide not only something great to look at, but an activity too. You can get them pre-made for £6.99 in a variety of Christmas themes – sleigh, Christmas tree, Santa, Christmas Cat (!) – but in-store you can also buy an empty bauble and fill it yourself from the lego pick n’ mix.

cookie cutter decorations
These cookie cutter decorations from Marks and Spencer are great – useful and decorative at the same time. And you could even use them to make some stained glass biscuit decorations to hang alongside them!

bell wreath john lewisThe bells on this bell wreath from John Lewis have a really lovely jingly sound – it’s taken me a while to track down the perfect jingle and here it is! Not only does it sound great, but it looks good too and works well as a child friendly alternative to the traditional ‘real’ Christmas wreath.

Lakeland CIJ light reindeer

The LED frosted reindeer is perfect for introducing some lovely Christmas sparkle without worrying about kids getting tangled in wires. He’s battery operated (2 AA’s) and reasonably sized enough to sit happily in a variety of places around the house.

Tesco CIJ tree ornament

Tesco have a great little metal tree ornament featuring a variety of animals that kids will love. It looks great on its own, or you could hang a few little baubles or bells off it too.

Waitrose CIJ three little trees

If you prefer trees of the real kind, then this set of three little trees from Waitrose might be right up your street. The Wee Man and Bubby D have been clamouring for a little tree each of their own to go in their bedrooms and with their small size and beautiful red pots these are perfect – one for each of our three 🙂

Mothercare CIJ Toybox Christmas

For decorations that can be played with, and still look Christmassy when they’re lying around on the front room floor, the Christmas Toybox set from Early Learning Centre is just right. Kids can have hours of fun creating adventures for their Santa, reindeer and elf friends – and they’re available either as a set or three or individually…so if you want to create an entire elf army, you can!

glass multi robot decorations paperchaseAnd finally, for ‘child friendly’ in a looks-great-but-more-breakable way, we love these robots from Paperchase. Perfect for once the kids are past that ‘lets climb the tree and try and eat it’ stage.
