Sponge Bob, Dora, Beechdean and Smurfs – the Other Half’s day out

Usually it’s me that gets to take the kids to events – but this Wednesday was one of my working ones. And on Wednesday’s when I’m working, it’s the time that the Other Half and the kids enjoy a ‘Daddy Day’.

So he got to take them along to a screening of the Smurfs and unveiling of Beechdean’s new Dora and Spongebob ice creams instead…beechdean waiting for film

And here’s what he said about it:

The Film:

‘Yeah, s’allright’.

As you can see, he is not a man of many words. When it comes to describing films, anyway.

The Wee Man was a bit more forthcoming:

‘There were LOTS of smurfs, and a big EVIL MAN and a cat, and Smurfette wasn’t really naughty and they had an ADVENTURE!’

Well, that sounds more enthusiastic.

And Bubby D just keeps chanting ‘GNOMES’.

So it sounds like they all had fun, anyway. I quite fancy going to watch it myself – I loved the Smurfs as a kid, my sister and I would sneak downstairs on a weekend morning and get really excited when the familiar ‘na, na, nanana naaaaaaa’ music started.

Well, this got the Other Half a lot more animated. He’s from New Zealand and dairy farming is a big thing over there…so here’s his verdict:

‘I was impressed with the farm realising milk is not enough.  They’ve branched out and got a premium product, right there on the farm – not sent out to a factory.  And they have licenced some great characters too. It’s hard to make money from just milk – ice creams is a great idea.’

beechdean doraWell, that’s all true. And at 99p each they’re very good value for parents who’ve already forked out for several cinema tickets too.

But what I actually wanted to know was, what does it taste like?

beechdean pick your flavourIt turns out that everyone agrees they taste very nice! The Other Half was in favour of the chocolate flavour, and the Wee Man says he really liked the strawberry…and the chocolate…and the vanilla…

I’m told they’re nice and creamy, with just the right amount of flavour and a great size so that it doesn’t all melt before you’ve finished eating too.

wee man with ice creamAnd…I have to admit I did sneak out of the office in my lunch hour to sample a Sponge Bob orange flavoured ice push up myself (well, I work five minutes from the cinema and it was a hot day!) – and I can testify that they’re lovely and refreshing. Bubby D had one too and she was keen for more.

So all in all, everyone had a great day! And the kids loved the balloons they got to go home with too 🙂balloons
