Food, fun and some top turkey tips at the #BritmumsXmasDo with Morrisons
The kids have already kicked off their Christmas with a couple of visits to Father Christmas, but the run up for me really only started today with the Britmums Christmas Networking Event.
I managed to arrive right on time to have a bit of a peek at all the tasty delights on offer before being treated to some top tips from Morrisons Executive Chief of Product Development, Neil Nugent. Apparently covering a turkey with foil is a no-no – and that’s something that I always do, so a big slap on the wrist for me! I’m not in charge of cooking the turkey this year, but I’ll be sure to tell her that it’s worth making sure it’s untrussed and swinging it around a bit to loosen it up (I’ve got a great mental image of her swinging it around her head but I don’t think he meant that such a violent swinging around was recommended…). Apparently this helps eliminate cold spots around the armpits…of the turkey, that is. Although I imagine it’d probably get whoever is doing the turkey swinging a bit warmed up too!
Plus, it turns out lard and dripping are back in fashion. I’m looking forward to putting the potato cooking tips to the test (simmer NOT boil for ten minutes, use maris pipers, let the steam evaporate before covering with a sprinkle of semolina or polenta and then dot with a bit of lard before roasting) – I’m a big fan of roasties and I’m always striving to create the perfect potato.
After all that food talk I discovered a bit of an appetite, so it was time to give the food a try…
I LOVE the hot chocolate fudge crown, I think I could quite happily eat one to myself. Maybe.
There are lots of family friendly treats on offer too – santa, snowmen and reindeer stacks, Ronnie the Reindeer cake, gingerbread houses, large ‘Ginger the gingerbread’ men and really cute ‘Disco Pants’ biscuits which I know wouldn’t last long around the kids! (They didn’t last long around 80 hungry Britmums bloggers, either!).
And of course, mince pies. Lots and lots of lovely tasty mince pies, big and small. My personal favourite were the Signature All Butter Deep Fill mince pies, but actually I’m not too fussy – I’d happily eat all of them 😉
Last but not least, there were lots of lovely bloggers to share the food eating fun with. It was great to catch up with some old friends – rocknrollerbaby, EssexKate, CarolynneAsh and AnEssexWife to name a few – as well as meeting some new people and putting some faces to names…hello ModernMummyUK and PlayLearnToday 🙂
Armed with a lovely goody bag full of treats (more mince pies, yum!) I’m now feeling decidedly more festive.
Thanks for a lovely morning, Britmums!
