Forget F1 – What if Little Tikes did the Silverstone Grand Prix?
‘Daddy’s watching his fast cars again’
That’s a phrase we hear often enough. Actually I quite like F1 too, but I don’t get the chance to watch it at all really now. Unless you count the kids version…and it seems like other people have the same idea, because here’s a thought – what if the Grand Prix was run by kids? Silverstone, taken over by Little Tikes Cozy Coupes…
Silverstone F1 Grand Prix = fast, loud, occasional scary crashes
Little Tikes Cozy Coupe Grand Prix = not so fast, quite possibly louder (IT’S MY TURN NO IT’S MY TURN, WATCH OUT <SMASH> heeeheeheee…), frequent minor incidents:

And you can have a co-driver too, if you want!
The pits stops are also far more frequent, and last a lot longer…well, it does take longer to pick grass and stuff it in the fuel tank than squirting in liquid fuel from a hose, of course.
And thankfully there are no tyre changes needed…I remember putting those on in the first place when we built the thing and there was quite a lot of muted cursing involved!
Lots of opportunity for discussion over the design of the car too. Check out the spoiler on this DinoRARRRRi:
There are no qualifiers, anyone can get involved, big or small (whatever did happen to that giant Cozy Coupe from the LolliBop Festival 2013, anyway?) and although I’d like to think that the race might take a lot less time, I am fully aware that the kids will play happily for HOURS in their Little Tikes Cozy Coupes so in all honesty you’ll probably have to dedicate an entire afternoon to watching them whizz around the track even if they do end up only doing 2 laps.
Last time I watched the F1 actually at Silverstone, it involved waitressing in a hospitality tent for 12 hours – great for watching the race, good for my bank balance, not so fantastic for my feet. Although there was ice cream, in tiny tubs, which kind of made up for it.
And there’s no reason why you can’t have ice cream, for a Little Tikes Cosy Coupe Grand Prix. In fact, I think ice cream would be a fitting finish to the event.
Who needs champagne, anyway?
Time to put my feet up and watch them get on with it 🙂
