How far would you go for a great nights’ sleep? The Ibis #Sweetbed
How far would you go for a good nights’ sleep?
Lying in bed, staring at the ceiling (not that I can see it since it’s dark) while I am forced to listen to the Other Half snoring like a whole drove of pigs has taken residence in his mouth, and feeling Pippin wriggle around like it’s disco party time, I ponder this question.
Sometimes, I venture as far as the sofa in the front room, or rouse myself sufficiently to make up the folding bed in the spare room (which is uncomfortable when you have a big wiggly bump, but nevertheless a lot quieter).
I’ve even thought about driving to the nearest hotel.
But never, not even in my wildest contemplations, have I considered lugging a bed across continents and up a mountain.
Which is exactly what Gareth and Aaron – two intrepid explorers who are currently part way through an expedition across Brazil (a whole 9000 miles!) without using any form of motorised transport – decided to do. With an Ibis Sweet Bed strapped to their backs, they scaled Devils Mountain to get the ultimate nights sleep in what is ultimately a very unlikely sleep situation (howling winds, freezing temperatures, the edge of a very high cliff…give me snoring any day!).
It seems pretty crazy, but they actually managed to do it! And just in case you are wondering how on earth they possibly could achieve such a thing, they kindly made a video of their exploits to demonstrate the process.
Luckily for me, Ibis don’t require everyone who’d like to try out a Sweet Bed to scale mountains. Months of research have gone into creating a very comfortable bed, which can now be found in Ibis hotels across the country. And I, along with two explorers and several other bloggers (including Liska from NewMumOnline, Ruth from Rocknrollerbaby, and Chelsea from MSMummyofTwo) got to give one a try…for a few minutes anyway.
I have to say, even with a large bump the bed was very, very comfortable and I would be perfectly happy to test the Sweet Bed for a longer period, given the chance 😉 With over 1000 Ibis hotels nationwide I have a feeling I won’t have to go to far to make that a reality!*
*A fact I have made a note of, for the next horrendous night of snoring…
Disclosure: I was not paid, cajoled or otherwise plied with anything other than a non-alcoholic cocktail to write this post.
