‘She looks like a hairdryer with eyes’

That’s what I said, mockingly, several years ago when a strange pink pig happened to flash up on our TV screen.

I’ve had my comeuppance. Peppa Pig fever has firmly taken hold in our house, and from her tiniest days as a screaming newborn who could only be calmed in the car by listening to the theme tune over, and over and OVER AGAIN Bubby D has been pretty obsessed with Peppa, pinkness and snorting.

So of course, starting preschool there is only one backpack she was after.

And when one arrived this week from Beebies Baby Store, complete with squidgy Peppa emblazoned across the front, she was thrilled. So thrilled in fact, that even though she isn’t even going to preschool this week thanks to a visit from another farmyard friend, the chicken pox, we still had to pretend that we were. Just so she could put it on and strut up and down the front garden with it.

As bags go, this one is definitely a winner if you’re three.

As the parent of the three year old, I’m pretty pleased with it too. It’s just the right size for her to put on and off her back easily herself, and it’s good quality with a zip that slides around easily. The straps are easily adjusted and have room for growth, and with only one large pocket with enough room for her PE kit, plimsolls and preschool jumper there are no sneaky little nooks and crannies to find stashed biscuit crumbs and broken crayons in a few months down the line. The fact that the Peppa is made of squidgy plastic rather than being simply painted on to the front of the fabric is a bonus too, as it looks like it’ll be much easier to keep clean on those days where the preschool walk involves muddy puddles…

She may not be at preschool this week, but next week Bubby D will be heading back, and her bag is packed and ready. Peppa is looking pretty pleased with herself. I’m pretty sure Bubby D will be looking that way on Monday morning too 🙂
