Review: Scooterslingz

When Little B was on the way, I often got to wondering how I’d manage having more kids than arms.

‘Don’t worry’ the Other Half would reassure me ‘you can just get the older two riding their scooters, and have the baby in the pushchair. Simple!’

Which is kind of how it’s turned out. Except, it’s not that simple because the school don’t allow you to store scooters there until pickup time, and even when I DO have the kids with me to ride them, fairly regularly D decides she is too tired, too cold, or too ‘three-year-old’ to ride hers. So that means I have to carry it (and her, if she gets her way) as well as pushing Little B.

It can be done. But it usually results in bruised legs from bashing scooters dangling from the handlebar of the pushchair, and curses from other parents as they try and get past our modernistic stroller-and-scooter sculpture.

Scooterslingz have offered a solution to this problem, by coming up with a lightweight and compact scooter bag that can quickly unrol to provide a robust and easy to carry option for a Mini Micro scooter. With a comfortable, secure carrying strap and a protective wheel cover that clips around the top of the scooter base board, you can sling the scooter over your shoulder and get it where you need to go in a compact, efficient way.

It does require disassembly of the Mini Micro, done by pressing the small red button at the base of the handle so that it pops out from the base. This was a bit tricky at first – if you’ve not taken the handle off particularly regularly it can be a bit stiff and involve a bit of fiddling (and cursing, probably). But once you’ve done it a couple of times, it gets easier and is a very quick and simple process. Putting the scooter in the Scooterslingz bag when it’s a bit wet and muddy might also put some people off, but then the likelihood is that if you’re trudging to the school in that kind of weather you’re already a bit damp in any case. The Scooterslingz is easy to wipe clean and wash after housing a muddy scooter, and you can leave the mud to dry and just brush it off if you prefer too.

We’ve found that it’s well designed and thought out, and once you get past the first couple of handle-detachments it makes life much more easy on the school run.

And if you’re travelling a bit further than the school? Well it’s great for that too. On the tube, on the bus…we were even able to take D’s scooter all the way round the world to New Zealand, knowing it was safe and secure on the plane! She loved having her scooter there while we explored the South Island and wherever we went – the beach, the bush, or the mall – it was easy to carry around when she wasn’t using it.
