My milkshake brings all the babies to the yard – the Ardo Calypso breastpump
A new day, a new gadget…
After using the Ameda Elite in hospital with Bubby D, I realised the difference that a good breastpump makes to expressing milk. In a fit of panic, worrying that Bubby D was never going to latch on again and I’d be going the pumped milk route instead, I decided to bite the bullet and spend 120 quid of my 6 weeks maternity full pay on a decent new pump.
After a bit of research I decided to get the Ardo Calypso, and upon using it for the first time this morning I haven’t been disappointed! It’s easy to tailor the the speed and strength of the pump to get milk flowing quickly and easily. Its also fairly quiet which is great, and I like the fact that I can simply convert it to a double pump with the upgrade kit I got with it. (An extra 20 quid – bargain)
I’m able to get a whole 150ml bottle of milk in less than 10 minutes which is a massive difference to my previous electric pump which could take 30 minutes or longer. Definitely a plus when you have two kids to look after – time is a precious commodity!
The pumping unit itself is larger than I’m used to and not as portable, although it would be reasonably easy to take out and about if I needed to. (Not that I ever really did that with my previous pump anyway).
Despite the fact that Bubby D is now happily latching on again (hurrah! – long may it continue) I’m glad I spent the cash. It means I can feasibly look into milk donation too, something which I’d like to have done first time round but the Wee Man was too old by the time I heard about it.
For now, I’m just enjoying being able to feed Bubby D, and building up a milk supply in the freezer for later on should we need it.
