Have your cake and eat it – baking with the Bamix
There are many things in the world that the Wee Man is enthusiastic about – aeroplanes, diggers, the ‘Shark-a-Dark’ (that’s Shark in the Dark by Nick Sharratt to me and you) and shouting at the cat – but one of his most enthusiastic enthusiasms is cake.
So it was no great surprise that this morning, asking him what he wanted to do, he replied ‘make cake!’.
Cake may seem like an unusual idea for breakfast, but on this occasion I quite fancied some cake and Bubby D was happily napping, so we pulled out the recipe book, the mixing bowls and the Bamix.
The Bamix is not strictly speaking a mummy gadget, in the sense that it has appeal to a wider market, but since I received it for Christmas after asking Father Christmas for one in my preparation for beginning weaning with the Wee Man, I consider it to be a mummy gadget for me. As a hand held food processor, its very easy to use, and it quickly and efficiently blends, whisks, beats and grinds within a few short minutes. The marketers boast that it can turn granulated sugar into icing sugar with no problem at all, and I can certainly believe it. At around £100 its not cheap but the vast array of functions, sleek design and quick operation plus a 10 year guarantee are reflected in that price tag.
With the Bamix and the Hummingbird Bakery Cake Days book by my side, we quickly achieved a pretty passable version of their Apple Strudel cake (and a bit of a floury mess on the floor, the sides, and all over the Wee Man too it has to be said) and an hour later we were all happily munching.
A pretty good start to the day, I reckon.
