Strings on things – Zumba pants and pushchairs

The last couple of times I’ve been to the Baby Show, there’s been some kind of Zumba event going on nearby. The tube platforms are crowded full of baby bumps, laden down pushchairs…and a lot of fairly fit looking women standing around in very garishly coloured clothing.

And trousers.

With strings on.

This intrigues me. Not only is it rather an eclectic mix of people all going to the same place (not quite as eclectic as the time there was a comic convention on at the same time at ExCel though – that had some pretty awesomely costumed people standing around which the Wee Man found amazing!) but the clothing is strange too.

What’s with the strings?

I find myself pondering this at random times.

Are they for tying things too, like those toy ties you get to stop snack traps falling out of pushchairs?

Are they for making your trousers shorter or longer, whichever mood takes your fancy?

Or are they just random strings, there for no particular reason other than people like strings?

I’ve never done Zumba, so maybe I’m simply not party to the real reason behind the existence of stringy trousers, and there is some perfectly logical explanation.

One day, I will find the answer!
