What if there WAS a lion?

Now that Bubby D has discovered the miracle of hair pulling (practically guaranteed to stop her big brother in his tracks from whatever dastardly little-sister scaring plan he had in mind), my two little ones have actually begun to regularly interact in rather a pleasant manner.

Currently, their favourite game is Lions and Dinosaurs and it goes a bit like this:

Wee Man (at Bubby D): ‘ROAAARRRRRRR’

Bubby D: AAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrgh (whilst waving arms about and grinning madly).

Bubby D (to Wee Man): GRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrr

Wee Man: AaaaaaaaAAAAAAAaaaaarrrggggghhh (whilst covering eyes in mock despair and peeking through his fingers cheekily)

and then repeat, many many times.

It’s actually almost unbearably cute to watch and it is so lovely to see them playing happily together, even if it does get to the point where my ears are begging for the high-pitchedness of it all to stop.

Forget the lion, there's a tiger on the loose!

So when the Wee Man heard that there might be a real live lion (the ‘EssexLion‘ as it is known) on the loose, just down the road from us, he was understandably very excited.
‘Will the lion come to see us?’ he wanted to know. ‘Be CAREFUL DADDY!’ he howled as the Other Half went to retrieve something from the car. ‘There is a LION outside!’

Going to sleep, he could hardly contain himself as he pondered whether the lion might be able to fly through his bedroom window, which was left open a bit as the temperature was a bit on the warm side.

Where did it come from? he wanted to know. What does it want? Where is it going? Why is it in a field? Are there DINOSAURS?

Although I suspect that all most of these questions were probably going through the minds of the various police, zookeepers and residents of St Osyth there is one thing for sure – although they have all now come to the conclusion that the lion does not exist, it’s still very real for the Wee Man.

‘But don’t worry Mummy’ he reassures me ‘it’s just a very friendly one’.
