Where words fail, music speaks
I love music. It brightens my day, and feeds my soul. When I’m feeling down, just listening to certain songs can bring my mood back up again.
When I was younger, at school, and part of an orchestra, I cannot describe adequately the amazing feeling of creating music with other people – bringing together a wonderful sound out of a group of people and instruments coming together. It’s one of my favourite feelings in the world. It makes me want to cry, but in a good way.
However, just recently, my musical scope has been rather more limited. ‘Feeling Good’ by Muse has been replaced with ‘If You’re Happy and You Know It’.
‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ has been replaced by ‘music choice of my child’ – which at the moment happens to be a CD entitled Songs for the Car.
But I don’t mind. I’m glad to hear that the Bear Went Over The Mountain. Its pleasing to know that Five Little Ducks Enjoyed their swimming session. And I do enjoy harmonising to Twinkle Twinkle Little Star (you can get some great harmonies into that one – I found myself wishing I still had an 8 track recorder so I could make my own version!).
So it came as a bit of shock the other day in the car when I hit the wrong button on the stereo by mistake, and instead of the expected ‘Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush’, Robbie Williams came blasting out of the speakers. Expecting howls of protest, I was gratified to hear no complaints emanating from the back seat (Robbie Williams may not be my first choice of music, but it was nice to remember that the radio existed!).
Stranger still, after a minute or two, a little voice piped up, in good time and in tune…’She’s the One’…
Since then, the Wee Man has been found declaring ‘She’s the One’ at random intervals.
Seems I’m not destined to be the only music lover in the household 🙂
